Which one fits your trip
- Two people, small bags, landing before 18:00
The coach is one of the cheapest seats up the valley and needs no change. The train works too, but it is slower, with three changes in the timetable.
- A family or group of four with ski bags
Take a private transfer. At 150 to 225 euros for the vehicle, four people pay about 38 to 56 euros each, which overlaps the dearer shuttle starting prices (36 to 45 euros), and nobody drags skis between trains.
- Landing in the evening
The last Saturday train that reaches Chamonix the same evening leaves the airport at 18:14 (October timetable), and the last coach is shown at 20:35. After that you need a shuttle still running that night, a pre-booked transfer or the taxi rank.
- Six to eight people
Ask for a minivan. The price is per vehicle, so the cost per person drops with every seat you fill.

How long is the drive from Geneva Airport to Chamonix?
About 1 hour 15 minutes in normal traffic for 87 km, which is also what the Chamonix tourist office gives. On a winter Saturday in the French school holidays allow much longer; in the 2023 February holidays ATMB said A40 traffic tripled at weekends.
Is there a direct train from Geneva Airport to Chamonix?
No. The timetable lists three changes (Geneva Cornavin, Annemasse and Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet), though some Léman Express trains may run through Annemasse, and the trip takes 2 h 41 to 2 h 59. The train page has the full connection.
Is there a bus from Geneva Airport to Chamonix?
Yes. FlixBus, run with SAT Mont-Blanc and Borini, goes from the airport to Chamonix Sud in about 1 h 25, at least four times a day, from about 19 euros (SAT Mont-Blanc's advertised fare). Shared shuttles also run from the arrivals hall. See bus and shuttle.
How much is a private transfer?
Operators advertise from about 150 to 225 euros per vehicle, one way. A Geneva taxi on the meter comes to about CHF 338 by our estimate; one operator estimates CHF 300 to 400. See prices.
Do I need a Swiss motorway vignette to drive to Chamonix?
Not on the shortest route, which crosses Geneva to the Vallard border and joins the French A40. The longer route over the Swiss A1 and Bardonnex does need the CHF 40 vignette.
